Beginning a new year…

coffee&candlesI have been a slow blogger over the past few weeks.  I know I made big promises of doubling my blog posts this year and here I am blogging about half as much. Please don’t judge me yet. You see, these past few weeks have been huge for us – the Baker’s are in a serious season of planning folks. We have some big career decisions to make over the coming months and we are beyond excited about where we are headed. At the same time, change isn’t all excitement.

If you were sitting next to me on my couch with steaming coffee and candles I would tell you how elated we are with 2014, but then things would get real. I would tell you about all the fears and hesitations we have and how, honestly, somedays I feel like we are standing on the edge of a cliff getting ready to jump. However, I really believe that this season is all about planning for our free fall so we can hit the ground running. Dave and I have spent many evenings with coffee and candles planning, dreaming, writing, and making lists. so. many. lists. We cannot wait to share more about our plans with you all in the coming months. Get ready everyone. This January I keep coming back to a quote I found at the beginning of the year:

“There are years that ask questions and years that answer.”

― Zora Neale HurstonTheir Eyes Were Watching God

I think 2013 was a year of questions for us. I am hoping 2014 brings more answers. And I suppose I hope it asks more questions too. I am terrified that I don’t know where we will be in January 2015 or what our business will look like, but at the same time the best things in life require risk and a little bravery. I am grateful from the bottom of my heart for your support and for taking this journey with us. We are so blessed by your readership, business, and encouragement. We can’t wait to share another year with you.

EDIT: My mom called me after reading this post thinking we were moving or that something was horribly wrong. We are great!!  I was just reflecting on the excitement and fear that come with big changes.

  1. Hi Erica, I meant to ask “Where and how have you been?” Questions answered. I wish you all the very best in all your career decisions and all the changes you are about to make. Don’t be afraid to stand o the edge of the cliff, it’s where you see the best view:)
I love the quote and I can relate. I remember the year after year of questions; the last few years have been answers after answers with some new questions. Looking forward to hearing all about your plans in the coming months and seeing more of your beautiful photography.
