I love me some home

view-from-an-airplaneIn the past five weeks I have slept in 3 different countries and 11 different beds. I set foot in 10 states and 9 air planes. I spent 12 nights at home and 19 nights someplace else. For some of you, these statements might seem normal,  for some it sounds like a dream, for others of you this sounds like a nightmare. If you know me well, you are guessing that I am in camp number 2. I really love to travel and to be on the go. I jump at any opportunity to see a new place and meet new people. I am even the crazy person who sort of loves airports.

The past 5 weeks have been incredible. I have shot photos and video of some INCREDIBLE people overcoming adversity in their lives and worked with the AMAZING organizations that are enabling them to do so. I have been fascinated by new cultures and tried new things. I have traveled with some dear friends and seen so many family members who are dear to my heart.

BUT. I am really looking forward to being home for a little while. I am ready to put my suitcases away and catch up on laundry. I am ready to use full sized toothpaste and bury my face in my own pillow. I feel like I have been missing out on my friends’ lives here in DC and I really miss them. I have also really missed my church family – podcast sermons are not the same!

Bottom line: As someone with a serious case of ‘wander-lust’ it is easy to romanticize travel or put it up on a pedestal, but I cannot take ‘home’ for granted. I really love Washington, DC and the community that we have here. So I am feeling content to be here at the moment….at least for a few weeks! Who wants to hang out and get some coffee?

**PS- The title of this post comes from the Johnny Swim song, Home. I am really loving this band lately and had the opportunity to see them in concert a few months ago. I love their sound and the fact that they are a married couple pursuing music together. I have had the song ‘Home’ stuck in my head while writing this post! They came out with a new album a couple of weeks ago and we have really enjoyed listening to it while traveling – you should check them out!
