Taling Chan Floating Market: Bangkok, Thailand

Dave and I had an incredible time in Thailand this summer. We absolutely loved the country, the people, and the food, and we have decided that we need to take another trip to see southern Thailand. One of the things on my list to see in Thailand was a floating market. After doing some research on floating markets, it seemed that the famous market I was picturing from the old James Bond movie had turned into quite a tourist trap. I was disappointed, but we decided to check out a smaller floating market in Bangkok called Taling Chan.

This market was more of a weekend lunch market, and each boat featured a different Thai dish. We noticed that the turn out for the market was probably 50/50 with Thai locals and foreign tourists, and, much to our delight, it had bathrooms with toilets (you realize why this is a big deal after a few days outside of western culture). Dave decided on some pork and I got spring rolls, and we sat on one of the nearby bridges where small tables had been set up and we dove into our scrumptious lunches. I would definitely recommend the little market to anyone who finds himself or herself in Bangkok. Who doesn’t love a good floating market?
