Breakthrough Thailand Film

This past summer Dave and I traveled to Thailand to crate a short film for aoneeight about Breakthrough Thailand, an organization working with teen girls and their families to strengthen families, create economic opportunities, keep kids in school, and cut off Bangkok’s sex industry at its source. Cori and Jub, the Co-Directors of Breakthrough Thailand are doing some incredible work in their village and we enjoyed getting a front row seat into their everyday life with their girls. We saw that parenting 12 teen girls is not an easy task, (no weekends off  here) but we also saw the results of the love and commitment of  their family.

Our film premiered this past weekend alongside a few others by aoneeight storytellers and we felt so blessed to be able to tell so many people about Breakthrough Thailand. Watching so many of you watch the film this weekend reminds us how special film is as a medium for storytelling. How wonderful it is to be able to show you Breakthrough Thailand and let you all connect with the girls the way we did. Thank you so much for all of the support.

We are so excited about Breakthrough Thailand’s next steps and about the teen center they hope to build in 2014. They are busting at the seems and are in need of the space. Want to give financially to the Breakthrough family? You can do so here.

  1. This is amazing… even though I grew up there, I really only became aware of the sex industry once I hit college. And the stereotypes that come with it, and how much it negatively affects the country. Ouey’s story is so sad and so beautiful… thank you for this, this is truly great work.

  2. I salute you for tackling such a heavy issue. I’m a trainer on children’s rights, and I have conducted training sessions in Pattaya with center social workers. I know how hard it can be to parent these girls, and harder to keep others off the streets.

    • I am so glad you connected with the story, Aleah. The issue really is heavy, but I am continually inspired by people like you and the Breakthrough team who continue to work against the sex industry in Thailand. Thanks for watching the film!
