Christmas Card 2013

2013 was a year of travels. We are blessed to have such amazing friends, families, and clients around the country and world. This year we decided to share 13 cities in 2013. We asked my brother Chris, a graphic designer, to help out with the card (you might remember his work from last year, see it here).  We wanted to share our experiences with everyone and knew that a card alone couldn’t do it justice. We decided to do a card that could lead to more stories from our journeys. Here we go…

Annapolis, MD
In January, we drove up to Annapolis for a mini trip away together. We spent the weekend walking around the harbor, eating Thai food, and dreaming about 2013. We really enjoyed setting time apart from our every day lives to intentionally plan for the future and focus on our marriage. We’re planning our next getaway for 2014 and will share a blog post about it (location TBD). In the mean time, read about our trip to Annapolis. [Read More]

Philadelphia, PA: Our New Nephew Owen
Meet Owen Baker. The photos in this post were taken when we met Owen for the first time. We captured these moments on a trip to Philadelphia where my brother and sister-in-law live. I’m sure we’ll be posting more photo of Owen and his older sister, Adelaide, in the next year. [Read More]

Filmmaking in Panama
In May I had the opportunity to travel to Panama City, Panama to work with a great organization called ANA Panama. The acronym ANA comes from the phrase “Ayudando Niños Abandonados” meaning “Helping Abandoned Children.” [Read More]

Los Angeles, CA: Let Us Begin
In 2012/2013 Brandon Bray and I created a short documentary called “Let Us Begin.” The film won several awards including a One Show Entertainment Bronze Pencil Award and I had the opportunity to fly to Los Angeles to accept the award this past June. [Read More]

Birthday in NYC
Dave surprised Erica with tickets to New York City for her birthday in June. She says she couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend her birthday. We took the train from Union Station to Penn and spent the weekend visiting friends and exploring the concrete jungle. [Read More]

Bangkok, Thailand: Taling Chan Floating Market
Erica and I had an incredible time in Thailand this summer. We spent a few days exploring Bangkok before heading to the country side to work on our film for Breakthrough Thailand. One of our favorite places in Bangkok was the floating markets where we enjoyed lunch one afternoon.  [Read More]

Chiang Mai
We had such a lovely time in Chiang Mai, Thailand. At the end of the first day, Erica looked at me and said “this may rank as one of my favorite days of my life yet.” I don’t know exactly what it was, but the people just seem to make you feel at home in their city. It was truly an incredible experience. Hint: tigers and elephants.  [Read More]

24 Hours in Tokyo
We spent a planned 24 hour layover in Tokyo during our flight back from Thailand in July. We saw much of the city thanks to the travel guide prepared by Andrew Marston. It was a quick sprint, but well worth it. We hope you enjoy the photos. [Read More]

San Diego, CA: California Dreaming
Over the summer Erica flew to San Diego, California to visit her sister, Emily while her husband was deployed. Her other sister, Alyssa, and cousin, Kate, were also visiting for the week. They spent the week relaxing by the pool, eating mexican food, laying on the beach, and enjoying our own sister humor that no one else gets. [Read More]

Gananoque Canada: Boating
Our family has a cabin on a lake in Ontario, Canada. I spent a week there almost every year since I was born. It’s a special place for us for many reasons and we always enjoy the valuable time spent with family. A favorite part of our time at the cabin is the sunset boat rides we take after dinner. [Read More]

Guyana, South America
In October, I traveled with a team of surgeons and medical personal on a trip to Guyana, South America.  The goals of the trip were to provide quality care, provide educational instruction, and forge a sustainable relationship with the Ministry of Health for future medical missions. I traveled with fellow filmmakers Chris Cymbalak and Brandon Bray to shoot a film about the trip. We’ll post the video and photos in 2014.

Charleston, SC
Erica went to visit her parents in their new home this fall. They recently moved to Charleston, SC after living in the Chicagoland area for about a year and we am so excited to get to visit them in warmer weather. No offense, Chicago. Erica, her parents, and aunt Jan spent a few days enjoying the historic city and plantations. [Read More]

Bethlehem, PA
Growing up, my family would travel to Bethlehem on Christmas eve. Ironic? This beautiful town is where my grandparents live, and it’s near and dear to our hearts. We couldn’t imagine a Christmas holiday without visiting at least once. As you drive through the city you notice Moravian Stars hanging outside people’s homes. We brought the tradition back to DC, and a star now hangs in our window to admire.
