We moved into our apartment almost two years ago but I really had a hard time finding the right decor for our mantle. The house we live in is over 100 years old and I absolutely love the history and the character in the architecture. This fireplace is the center of our living room and one of my favorite features on the house, but unfortunately the fireplace has never been functioning. In fact the wall behind it is just a hollow corner! Oh well, I still love it.
Anyways, I recently decided it was time to figure out some permanent decor and I didn’t want to spend much money on it. I came across a photo on pinterest that showed a stack of books in ‘rainbow order’ and decided to try out something similar. I chose books from my collection and arranged them by the color on their spine.I have a real love for repurposing household items as decor -it’s inexpensive and unique! I wasn’t sure how the books would look, but I actually love the way it turned out! I am quite happy with my little mantle makeover, it’s functional (a must in small, city apartments) and adds a fun pop of color.
Have you ever repurposed something as decor? I’d love to hear about your projects and ideas.
I think it looks great! I did a little bit of this on our bookshelves in the living room.
Thanks Melissa! It’s fun, isn’t it?
