It’s been a wild week, friends. If you are a frequent traveler you probably picked up on my cryptic blog post title. Each of those letter groups is an airport code that we visited on our route to Jinja Uganda. Yea. We took the scenic route.

Prior to beginning our journey to the heart of Africa, we had a lot of business to take care of in DC. We moved out of our apartment, for starters – and let me tell you, it was not the most smooth of moves. Luckily my mom and aunt flew in to DC the week before we moved and helped us pack, or I can assure you that the packing simply wouldn’t have gotten done. We might have been packing up until a few hours before our flight took off and had to wear our sweaty moving-clothes on the plane for our 48 hour journey – but that’s another story.

After the red-eye over to Frankfurt, Germany we spent a few lovely hours hanging out in the city center during our 10 hour layover. Despite the scorchingly hot temperatures, we enjoyed seeing the German architecture, bridges, and beer (of course).

After our little German jaunt, we hopped back on a plane to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where we sat in the airport for another 6 hours. If you have ever been to the Addis airport you know that there is not a whole lot to do, so I passed out on a bench for the better part of our time there. Though, don’t be too upset with me, I still made time to have a little Ethiopian coffee.

Finally, we boarded our last plane to Uganda! We landed among the beautiful. lush landscape and were able to spend a few wonderful days with our college friend, Laura. After some showers and good night’s sleep, she arranged for us to have a boda-boda (motorcycle) tour of Kampala. It was SO much fun.

The next day we got up bright and early to go white water rafting and camping along the banks of the Nile River. What an experience that was!

After so many full days on the go it is nice to be here in Jinja, Uganda where we have begun filming for an upcoming Bittersweet Monthly story. I hope you were able to stay with me through the explanation of our past week and can’t wait to elaborate more in later blog posts. For now, I just wanted to thank you all for your continued support and prayers!
