International Museum Day 2014

Smithsonians-1

Did you know that International Museum Day is this weekend? That’s right, it’s May 18th. As a former history major, you know I love that holiday. We will be away this weekend camping, but I got a chance to visit a couple museums today with our friends Stephen and Kate who are visiting DC from Portland.

The Smithsonian museums are one of my favorite things about Washington, DC. They’re great museums – and they’re free! The only slightly bad thing about them are the droves of middle school students in matching neon T-shirts descending on DC for their school trips. (I was once one of those students though, so I really have no right to complain). We ended up strolling through both the Natural History Museum and the American History Museum.

Stephen was apparently very interested in the sea life.

Kate was more interested in the political cartoons.

I loved these presidential street signs because of the Grand Rapids, Michigan sign!-It reminded me of my childhood.

The First Ladies’ dresses exhibit is always a fun one.

Are you planning any trips to your local museums this weekend? Cities like Philadelphia and Shanghai are even offering free admission!  Grab some friends and check out a local museum!

    • Any weekend is a good weekend to visit all the museums! (except maybe around 4th of July!) Hope you have a great time camping – it’s supposed to be a beautiful weekend around here!

    • Yes!! I mean it probably comes out of our DC tax dollars somewhere, but oh well! It’s really nice to be able to walk in and out of the museums and zoos without any tickets!
