NOMA Summer Screen

We scratched an item off of our summer bucket list this week! We loaded up a quilt and a bottle of wine and headed down to NOMA for their Summer Screen event. Every Wednesday over the summer months a giant movie screen is blown up,  the food trucks drive-in, and Washingtonians flock in the an empty lot for a movie showing. The event is open to the public and free of charge – win!

DC decided to take a break from it’s horrendously hot and humid July weather and gave us a cool, breezy evening. What a gift.

We visited the food trucks and got ourselves a little food to go with our picnic. I got a grilled cheese made with goat cheese and caramelized onions – two of my favorite things. It was delicious.

What a goof. He went with traditional cheddar.

They played The Perks of Being a Wallflower. The movie is kind of sad, but I really like it anyways. Want to know a fun fact? The movie was filmed in my high school! It is so strange to watch high schoolers in a movie walk the halls I walked and eat lunch in my cafeteria. This high school happened to be my third high school so I found myself identifying a lot with the main character, Charlie, trying to find his place. Other weird things? Dave and I started dating in high school and used to go to the diner that they go to in the movie, Kings, and my high school graduation looked pretty much identical to the one you see. We have also driven through “the tunnel” many, many times – though not standing in the back of a truck bed.

Anyways, it was such a great little date night. I highly, highly recommend checking out the Summer Screen while you can. They are playing Top Gun in in a few weeks!

And here’s a little iphone ‘selfie’ of the two of us to end things.

  1. How fun is this?! When I was going to school in Branson, Missouri I would go to summer movie nights all the time! Such a fun thing to do on a warm summer night. I miss those days!
