Sunrise in Shenandoah National Park

After seeing an epic sunset on our way into Shenandoah National Park we decided we had to get up early for the sunrise. We stayed in the Lewis Mountain Cabins and made ourselves a nice fire before going to bed. We were up at around 5 am and loaded into the car to begin chasing the sunrise. Unfortunately we did not find an overlook in our area of the park with a direct view of sunrise, but we decided to enjoy the golden light from this wide open meadow.

Dave took this opportunity to have an early morning pipe (not a habit, I assure you) and the four of us took photos and watched the sun climb up the sky.

Our sunrise chasing worked up quite an appetite so it was time to head back to the cabin to light a fire for breakfast.

The smoke from our campfire allowed us to see the beautiful sun rays that emerged through the trees around us as we ate. It was pretty magical.

After breakfast, we ended our time at Shenandoah National Park with a hike and a picnic lunch. It was hard to believe that we’d only been away from the city for 24 hours. We felt so relaxed after our time in nature. Hopefully this is just the first of many trips.

Which National Park do you think we should make a goal to visit?
