Sunset at Shenandoah National Park

shenandoah--12

It’s only been warm for a few weeks but we have already been able to enjoy some time away in nearby national parks – such a great way to kick off summer. Natalie and Jake were over at our house last weekend playing Settlers of Catan (you know, like the cool kids do) and we all decided to plan a spontaneous trip out of town to celebrate Natalie’s birthday. Five days later we were on our way to Shenandoah National Park.

We arrived at the park just before sunset and stopped at pretty much every overlook we passed on our way up the mountains. We even saw a black bear at our first overlook! The sunset was just awe inspiring and the warm light made it look like the valleys were on fire. I am pretty sure I would have driven to Shenandoah just for the sunset.

Jake is a photographer and filmmaker as well, so let’s just say our 24 hours at Shenandoah National Park were well documented. I will share more about our morning after this epic sunset later.
