Live Creatively, Friends

‘Live creatively, friends…Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.” – Taken from Galatians 6, The Message

If I were being honest I would tell you that I don’t feel very creative right now. There is a reason that today’s blog post is going up so late – I just don’t feel like I have anything to say. I figured I would just share a verse that has been speaking to me lately instead. “Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given”  I feel like I am in the thick of this, friends. Call it a ‘quarter-life crisis’ if you want, but this past year has been one big exploration of myself. I think I am beginning to feel a need to look outward instead of inward and dive deeply into work that is ‘others-focused. “sink yourself into that’.

As someone who is self-employed and working the creative field it can be easy to focus solely on my own work and building my business – I don’t want to be that way. “don’t be impressed with yourself” Or sometimes even worse, I constantly compare my creative work to other artists around me. What is it about internet world that can make you feel so inadequate and everyone seem so successful? “don’t compare yourself to others”

Today I choose to focus on doing what I can with my life to glorify God and going after the dreams I feel the Lord has placed in my heart. I need to run after opportunities instead of hiding in my little corner of the world. “Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.” I absolutely love that the Bible tells us to be creative with our lives -in fact, it says it’s our responsibility to do the creative best. How can I not inspired with this beautiful cherry tree blooming outside my window as I write? The city is blooming around me and I think it’s time to bloom with it.

Live creatively, friends.

    • Megan, I am glad you were encouraged by this verse. It’s been really speaking to me over the past few weeks and was a bit hesitant to share – but am so glad it spoke to someone else. Great to hear from you! Hope you are doing well! I would love to have you back 🙂

    • I am so glad the verse resonated with you. Yes, those are cherry blossoms (good eye). I actually shared more photos of the Washington, DC cherry blossoms in the next post as well!
